With summer underway, there’s no doubt we’ll see a surge in road users traversing the UK, visiting family and friends or packing up to enjoy a holiday in one of the many beautiful destinations on offer across the country. But is checking your car’s up to the job top of your checklist? From giving your car a once-over before you set off to stocking up on essential provisions, some careful planning can help you to make the most of your time on the open road. We've produced a handy eBook to help you with all those crucial tyre safety checks.
Carrying out maintenance checks regularly is essential for both your own safety and the performance of your vehicle. If you’re gearing up for a road trip this sunny season, it’s important to ensure you’re well prepared and the first thing you’ll want to check are that your tyres are in top condition.
As the only parts of your car that actually come into contact with the road, your tyres are without a doubt essential pieces of kit. They play a vital role in keeping you and other road users safe, and in ensuring a smooth ride. Whether you’re travelling long or short distances, checking the condition and quality of the tyres is essential, as not doing so can cause severe consequences; including a hefty fine or in worse cases a collision.
To find out how up-to speed motorists are when it comes to their car tyres, we commissioned a survey of 1,000 people across the UK and found that nearly one in ten respondents (9%) revealed they had either driven or knowingly got into a vehicle with tyres that didn’t meet the legal requirements. This isn’t only breaking the law but also putting yourself and other road users at risk. Tyres play a crucial role in speed and direction and being unable to control these variables can lead to a range of accidents with 11% of respondents admitting to being forced to brake harshly in bad weather conditions.
Our eBook not only covers tyre safety law but also provides handy maintenance hacks to make sure you’re not caught out when taking a trip this summer. If you want to share the eBook and help us with our mission to keep our roads safe, please feel free to share the eBook over on Twitter and Facebook by using the hashtag #TyreKnowledge and tagging @tyreplustweets.
